Family Gathering
A special time to celebrate
While Americans celebrate Thanksgiving this weekend, our family gathered in honour of my second youngest’s 17th birthday. We had a total of seven adults and teens, and seven children aged two to 11 over, for a dinner party.
The kids were so excited to be reunited. They frolicked about in a frenzy of fun, playing hide and seek tag. The youngest ones busied themselves with wooden blocks and stuffed animals.
We soon settled in together on the living room floor. Colouring an enormous poster animated with whimsical designs. Everyone focused on sharing space and crayons, colour pencils and markers. I imagine we will complete our masterpiece at Christmas time.
Our appetites, satisfied with a festive dinner and two kinds of cheesecake.
Austin opened his birthday presents. The hand crafted cards and thoughtful gifts lit smiles all around. I especially enjoyed the bright expressions on the little faces. So happy and proud to be a part of the birthday boy’s joy, in giving.
A new sketchbook made him blush. He is an amazing artist.
After dinner I was delighted to read some stories and poems aloud. My family is so supportive of the passion I have for writing here on Medium.
